Community Specialist's at BAMSI's Clubhouse provide support to members diagnosed with mental illness while promoting growth, independence and dignity.



The Clubhouse is designed to facilitate recovery through individual assistance, group support, member involvement in daily operations, peer support, and advocacy. Clubhouse staff provides assistance and support in many areas including community linkages, employment services, education assistance, life skills, housing supports, health and wellness, social and recreational services and outreach.



High school diploma or GED preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and have a satisfactory driving record. Experience working with mental health population is preferred.

General Statement of Duties:
To provide support to clubhouse members and to do so in a manner that promotes growth, independence and dignity for those individuals served.



  1. Organize and facilitate Clubhouse Services and Work Ordered Day group and individual activities.

  2. Actively promote the development and implementation of Clubhouse Members' personal and Action Plan goals.

  3. Promptly identify the need for resources to address social skill development techniques and implementation strategies in conjunction with the community business to ensure needed supports are in place

  4. Provide one-to-one supports to individuals on site, off site and through telephonic or remote outreach to encourage participation in Clubhouse Services, Activities, and Community Linkages.

  5. Meet any challenges, including emergency procedures as required.

  6. Participate in the development of each assigned members Action Plan utilizing a person centered approach.

  7. Conduct group training that supports Clubhouse Services and Work Ordered Day Activities.

  8. Provide a positive role model for members in work related skills (i.e. attendance, punctuality, etc.).

  9. Attend training seminars as requested.

  10. Provide telephonic, remote and in person Reachout Services to Clubhouse Members

  11. Ensure Clubhouse Member safety and comply with program standards for staff coverage

  12. Act as Member advocate and role model

  13. Provide a positive role model for members in work related skills (i.e. attendance, punctuality, etc.).

  14. Participate in scheduled meetings, addressing members weekly schedule.

  15. Attend staff meetings as required.

  16. Attend Action Plan meetings as assigned.

  17. Maintain a safe work environment.

  18. Intervene in crisis situations as needed or assigned.

  19. Perform duties consistent with program and agency policies and procedures.

  20. Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor

  21. Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.


EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS:



  • High school diploma or equivalency. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Valid driver's license in state of residence.


Experience:



  • Experience providing services to individuals living with serious and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorder.

  • Experience facilitating groups preferred.

  • Lived experience desired


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Excellent written and oral skills required
  • Bilingual in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean, Creole Haitian Creole, and/or ASL desired
  • Excellent computer skills required including online platforms, social media and zoom.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with persons served, families, service providers and case managers.
  • The ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods and to move equipment and supplies (up to 30 pounds) from floor level to approximately four feet above floor level
  • The manual dexterity and visual acuity to promptly and effectively complete keyboarding tasks on a personal computer, and to effectively use the telephone system, mobile devices and other office equipment.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs while transporting supplies
  • Must be able to drive up to 2 hours per day

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
